1st Grade

Check this page weekly to ensure that you have everything ready for your next computer class. This will help you get the most out of the coursework and also to be prepared to get your work done in class on time.​​

August 21, 2025 (Week 1)

Introduction, Drills, KidPix

​

Students will be introduced to computer class. They will learn about our classroom procedures, where they sit, how to log on, how to log off. They will have any additional time on Kidpix to draw a picture of what they did this summer. We will review how to log out at the end of class. 


August 29, 2025
Classroom Acclimation and Education.com (1 week)


Students will be given time to play on their Education.com accounts so they can practice remembering our system.

They will log into individual accounts that have been created for each student so they may progress through the games at their own pace. There are over 300 games and activities to improve student's Math and Reading skill all of which are common core aligned.

Students will log into their own individual accounts each week. They will start out with the reading portion alternating every few weeks to the Math portion. We will start with the preschool skills just to review for the first few weeks. We will then move to the kindergarten skills once the students are comfortable with the game.

Students will be monitored on the progress and mastering of objectives. Software allows for teacher to view student's progress and mastering through report.

Internet Safety Unit and Internet Game (6 weeks)

​

We will view the Internet Safety Videos found at the Internet Safety for Kids (7:50),  NetSafe, Episode 1 (What is the Internet?) (2:30), NetSafe Episode 2 (What is personal information?) (2:22), NetSafe Episode 3 (Tell an Adult) (2:02), NetSafe Episode 4, (Be Kind to Other's Online) (1:57), Wild About Safety with Timon and Pumba (2:57) sites together as a class.

Students will be given time to play on their Education.com accounts so they can practice remembering our system.

October 22, 2025 (week 8)
Halloween Games Online


Students will play select games from my Halloween Game Page. Instructor will demonstrate the different games. They will observe how instructor goes from tab to tab accessing the different games. They will then have an opportunity to play them.

November 3, 2025 (week 9)
Education.com  (1 week)

​

Students will work on their Education.com accounts. They will continue on their Reading and Writing adventure.

November 14, 2025 (week 10)
Thanksgiving Games Online


Students will play games from my Thanksgiving games page. The browser window will be open for the students along with 3 games in tabs for the students to navigate.

November 19, 2025 (week 11)
Kidpix, The true meaning of Christmas (2 weeks)

​

We will watch a short Story about St. Nicholas (which will be viewed from file)

Students will access the Kidpix software. They will insert a text box and write 2 good sentences on what Christmas means to them (correct punctuation/capitalization). The first sentence will start with 'Christmas is' and include the true meaning of Christmas. The second sentence may be anything about Christmas. They will add their name to the project.

The second week they will retrieve their projects, and draw the true meaning of Christmas along with anything else they might like to add. We will print their projects.

Christmas Games Online


Students will play games from my Christmas games page.

January 5, 2026 (week 13, day 6)
Education.com (2 weeks)

Student will continue playing on their Education.com games.

January 14, 2026 (week 15)
'Snowmail', learning about email 


(HDMI 3) on active panel, go to home, select either downloads or mail, select pencil tool)

Students will view an email on the Active board from Frosty. They will answer questions as a class regarding it while also filling in their own worksheet. They will address who wrote the email, who it is to, who it is cc-ed to, etc. Students will also review and use email related vocabulary.

January 23, 2026 (week 16)
Valentine’s Day Card PPT (2 weeks)


There is a folder on the students desktop (from our handout folder) which has a Valentine’s template in it.

​

Day 1: Students will change the font style, color, size and center of the text box. They will type ‘Happy Valentine’s Day 'I love you!' and their first name, last initial.

​

Day 2: They will retrieve it the following week, add and format 4 pictures and print it. They may add more if they like.

​

February 11, 2026 (week 18)
Kodable and Hector’s World (5 weeks)


Students will watch one of the 6 Internet safety videos found at Hector's World at the start of the class.  The first unit will be 'Keeping your personal information safe'. This is split into 5 different ten minute videos. They will also view one on Cyberbullying and Computer Security weeks 6 & 7.

This was excellent. There is no log in but I used it for an entire class period with the students who finished the Kodable unit in 2 weeks. I then used it again from the start for all students for 1 more class period.

​

No time this year with 1st grade. Did more on Kodable through Smeeborg intermediate. Did RodoCodo 1 and 2 with 2nd grade instead. Liked this

Easter Games Online


Students will play Internet Easter Games from Mrs Graber's website. Three games will be open in different tabs. Students will be shown how to navigate the tabs and play the different games.
